Mary passed away peacefully in Cobourg on Saturday, September 11th, 2021, at age 42. She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved fiancé Dan Faziluddin, her parents Les and Noreen Smirle, her siblings Heather Smirle (Logan Macpherson) and James Smirle (Catherine Thrasher), and her nephews and niece (Dyson, Isaac, Evan, and Clara).
Mary was, simply put, one of a kind. She was fiercely protective of her family and friends, and always stood up for what she believed in. Mary loved to cook – she made every meal an occasion – and her wicked sense of humour was second to none. Things were always just more fun when Mary was around. An avid reader, cat lover, and passionate about music, art, politics, and Liverpool FC, she had a huge influence on all of us and made us all better by having known her. We are so very grateful we had the privilege of having her in our lives.
The family is having a private service at MacCoubrey Funeral Home in Cobourg, with a public celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Northumberland Humane Society or the Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre.

To Dan and Mary's family, I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Mary side by side for four years. She spoke of each family member (including the cats) daily. I feel blessed to have known Mary. Her compassion for other people was truly admirable. She taught us all a great deal about being kind to ourselves and others. It seems unfair that someone who brought so much light and joy to the world should have to leave it so soon. I hope it provides you with some comfort knowing what an incredible impact Mary had on so many of our lives. She will be deeply missed.
