William David Secord

January 1, 1949 - September 9, 2021

On September 9,2021, Dave, beloved husband of Kaye Jackson, passed away at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre in Cobourg Ontario after a challenging and courageous battle with cancer. Dave was predeceased by his parents Bill Secord and Isabel McCagg and will be missed by his siblings Frances Enns, Mary Lou Secord (Lynn Marie) and Hugh Secord (Lesly). He is the brother-in-law of Roger Jackson (Linda) Bob Jackson (Lynette) and Martha Kress.

Due to Covid 19 concerns for everyone, there will be no visitation. A private Memorial Service for family will be held. Anyone wishing to watch a live stream of the service may do so on Wednesday, September 15th at 11:00 am (link for live stream will not be available until just prior to service).

Dave’s death is such a loss not only for his wife Kaye, but also for his family and many friends. For those who knew Dave, they knew someone who was without artifice - a genuine human being who was not only generous, kind and compassionate but also a true gentleman. Dave made the world a better place by simple kindnesses and also by an ever-present and very special sense of humour. He always saw the good in others and would say - “I tried to learn from everyone I knew and become better”.

Dave was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Cobourg. This group provided Dave with many cherished friendships and he came to consider them as his extended family. He loved being in the club and truly couldn’t believe that people could be so very wonderful.

Our thanks go to the amazing clinical team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Dave’s family physician Dr. Kirk Haunts, to the Northumberland Palliative Care Team and the staff at Ed’s House Hospice Care Centre. Special thanks also go to Mary Lou (Dave’s sister) who did all the driving for every Toronto appointment. Our sincere thanks also to the many people whose extraordinary acts of kindness and caring sustained Kaye and Dave throughout his illness.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe to gather.

Meg Herod - September 14, 2021

To Kaye and family, I grew up knowing Dave as "Seek" my dad's best friend. To me, Dave was like family. He was always there for the big moments in my life and Matt's. Dave always remembered what was going on with me in my world and would have a funny remark or a great story to share about a hilarious time in my dad and Dave's youth. Dave's always been such an important person in my family and the incredible strength of friendship that he modelled is something I'm always striving for in my life. Thinking about you and sending love. Meg Herod

Hi Kaye When I think of David a familiar quote by Thoreau comes to mind. It reads: “ Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them”. David with his amazing personality and his commitment to the community and to The Rotary Club of Cobourg “sang his song”. He will be missed. When the “worker bees” next meet at Kelly’s we will all be raising our glasses to him. Condolences, Ron
