Violet Elizabeth Bauman

November 14, 1921 - July 24, 2021

Peacefully at Regency Extendicare with family by her side on Saturday July 24th, 2021 in Port Hope, Ontario at the age of 99. Beloved wife of the late Russel Bauman. Loving mother to Eric Bauman (Margaret) and the late Gaye Bauman.

Violet was born in Lansdowne Ontario to Lola Blanche Ferguson and Robert A. Modler.

After high school completion, she went to nurses training school at Kingston General Hospital for 3 years and graduated as a registered nurse on June 15th, 1945. On November 26 she married the love of her life Russel Bauman. In 1946, they had their son Eric and in 1948 they had their daughter Gaye.

Violet moved from Toronto in 1953 to Sherbrooke, Quebec and in 1991 Violet and Russel moved to Cobourg, Ontario where she resided for her remaining years.

A very community minded person, she was a life long member of “United Church Women” and in Sherbrooke she worked tirelessly for the Sherbrooke hospital for over two decades. In 1990 she was appointed Governor of the Hospital.

A wonderful mother and a great friend to all she knew, she was a great cook, gardener (flowers and vegetables), and a lover of all animals (domestic and wild).

Cremation to take place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre.

My Mother Loved This Poem

You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she’s gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Violet will be missed at Regency. I always loved our times together talking about her life. Her cottage in the U.S, artistic love for painting, and her family. The poem shared above is beautiful. Thank you Violet

My sympathy to Eric and Margaret in their loss of our beloved Vi whom I I knew well at Plymouth-Trinity United Church in Sherbrooke. I was privileged to visit Vi and Russel in their Vermont estate and to visit Vi a couple of times, once with my friend Inge and once with my husband Nicolas, in Cobourg. We will not forget her.

Oh my goodness....my most sincere condolences to you both, Eric and Margaret. Vi was a wonderful woman. I am so glad I got to meet her and get to know her if even just a wee bit when she lived at Palisades. A lovely woman. Kind and gracious. Strong too. I will remember her with a smile. Also, truly...it was a privilege to witness the love and care you provided her. Again, my sincere condolences.
