Peacefully, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Streamway Villa Nursing Home, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Eleanor (nee Holland Cutting) and the late Marion (nee Taylor). Dear son of the late Ruby and Charles. Loving father of Scott (Rose), Gary (Paula), Deborah (Brian Jarvis) and Aimee (James Smith) and step father of Tracey Chesson (Geoff), James Cutting (Simmi), Paul Cutting (Laurie) and Lesley Rose (Yannick). Cherished grandfather of Taylor (Connor), Chris, Hanna Wilson-Smith, Wyatt (Kassandra), Hayley, Zoe, Hugo, Arthur, Jasmine, Devan, Owen, Davis, Julia, Tara (Drew), Tiffany (Rick), Curtis and Jordan. Treasured brother of Robert (Connie), Frank (Carol), John (Jean) and Keith (Margaret).
Lawrence “Larry” Donald Wilson was born July 18, 1936 to Ruby and Charles Wilson. He grew up the oldest of five boys, active and fun-loving. During those years he witnessed the celebrated commercial plane landing, Dec.1951, on the Wilson’s farm, where Cobourg Canadian Tire is presently. He became the family historian, documenting the Wilson’s rich history.
In 1957 he married Marion Taylor and they raised four children. Larry was an active and loving father and community volunteer.
Following Marion’s death in 1984, he took on a new role as step father to his new wife’s four children. His marriage to Eleanor Cutting in 1986 set the stage for his life’s continuing family joys, welcoming grandchildren from both families and continuing his passion for hospitality and family outings. His work with the Port Hope Lions Club gave him a perfect outlet to play Santa and deliver joy to area children. He and Eleanor travelled often, making lifelong friends in locations in Canada and the USA.
From his earliest days as a working man, he loved antique cars, owning several throughout his life. He was an active member of the AACA antique car club and for many years served the automotive industry in Port Hope with Larry Wilson Automotive Supply. His final career was with Ontario Hydro Darlington. After retirement, he and Eleanor spent his last years in Cobourg.
There will be a private family burial at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Perrytown and a celebration of life to be announced at a future date. Donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church Perrytown or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
