My dear Thelma and family: I cannot begin to tell you how sad I was to hear of Hal's death. I worked with him closely for 16 years on the Rotary Arts & Crafts Festival. He was my supporter, my advisor, my counselor, my confidante and my friend for every one of those sixteen years. He was also an annual supporter of my fundraising for Community Care Hospice Services and for Ed's House. He knew that a hospice had been my dream for 10 years or more. He was a lovely, generous, totally genuine person. I considered him a friend. I will miss him terribly. Am sending virtual hugs to you all. Selena Forsyth
To Thelma and the family we send our love and deepest sympathy. We loved Hal and he was the example of a true gentleman. We know the family will miss him but the rest of us also mourn the loss of this giant of a man. Much love, Tony and Carol

I was very sorry to hear of Hal's passing - he was a kind, gentle, fun individual who truly believed in service above self - a great Rotarian. I will hold with me a special memory of seeing him just a few weeks ago out walking on a beautiful Sunday morning. He looked so well. My thoughts are with you Thelma and your family during this difficult time.

My heartfelt sympathy to Hal's family, especially Thelma. I met Hal a number of years ago at Mark's Greenhouse where I work. He was such a pleasure to 'design' window boxes for- red and white- and I looked forward to his smile every season when he came in to place his order. Hal was always patient and thoughtful of others regardless of how busy we may have been at the time. Like so many we will miss him and all the warmth he brought to our days by his presence. I hold you in my thoughts and prayers. Warmest regards Sandra
Auntie Thelma, Lynn, Ron & Sheila. I am sending you love and hugs! I want you to know that Uncle Hal was always larger than life for me. A shiney secret gem. He was always there, at a distance. I loved how he was with my Mom and Dad. He relaxed in the story and joke telling and card games that always abounded during family visits. That's how I see him now....pouring a drink and settling in with Dot and Howard to reminisce. Love you all. Till we meet again. Lori

Dear Thelma and family- what sadness in my heart to read Hal's obituary in the newspaper! What comes to mind when I think of Hal: kind, generous, thoughtful, caring family man, great neighbour, solid leader, insightful... Many happy memories of our many years together on Glenhare, where both Hal and Thelma so warmly welcomed us - the junior seniors as Hal had said. May there be peace in your hearts as time goes on. Hugs - Madeleine (and Roy in spirit no doubt)
To Thelma and the entire family we ask that you accept our very sincere condolences. Hal was a very special person. We often recall all of the help and guidance he extended to us when we first started to lawnbowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sadly we say goodbye to a great friend and confidante I personally miss you already from our daily gabfests RIP Hal
Dearest Thelma and family, we are deeply saddened to hear the news of Hal's passing. He holds such a dear spot in our hearts and memories. When we moved next door to you, we had no idea that we would be blessed with grandparent figures for our children, and beloved storyteller/friend. He was such a gentle soul with dedication to his family, his community and charitable service. He would always take time to help out when needed, and we eagerly awaited for your homecoming after winter. He will be missed, and he will be graciously remembered by our family. Sending hugs xo
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the passing of your loved one. When I joined RBC, I had the pleasure of interacting with Mr. Jacobsen, as I squatted on his floor as the 1st female and 2nd staff in the IT Dept ( and we didn’t even use that term then:0)) I also had the pleasure of performing an artistic piece at his retirement party. That was a blast he thoroughly enjoyed! He was a giant gentleman of a man then and I’m sure to the end! May God comfort you all, especially his devoted and loving wife.

I am saddened at the passing of a wonderful man and friend who I have known for over 20 years via OTOW and for whom I have the greatest respect. He made friends easily and contributed to the good life there. Hal had a wise leader quality about him but was down to earth too. For example, he was always involved in the bowling green repair days. He was a much deserved Life Member of the OTOW Lawn Bowls Club, serving as it’s president twice. I went to him several years ago to tell him I was unable to find anyone who who would was willing to be the next club president. He simply said I’ll do it. That was Hal. I am so grateful I knew him. My sincere condolences to his family and especially Thelma and Linda. John

Our condolences to Thelma, Linda and the family. Hal was one of those guys who never said "no". He was always there to help out and be a guiding hand. Condolences also from the Irish Club- he and Thelma were always at the shows, and helping out in the parade. We have missed you both here at OTOW. Mike is still taking care of his flowers, though.
We both knew Thelma and Hal for many years, through bridge outings and numerous games of golf. Hal was always there to help when needed and he would offer to be the chef for our Monday and Friday BBQ's. He was just such a wonderful and kind person who came with a warm smile every time you would meet him. He will be missed. Our condolences to you Thelma and the entire Jacobsen family.
So sorry to learn of Hal's passing. I worked in McCreary in early 60's and got to know his parents & sister Linda. Met him in Nassau and subsequently at a number of RBC alumni golf tournaments. He was a true gentleman very kind and down earth just like the rest of the family. My sincere condolences to his family on their loss, he will be missed.
Dearest Thelma, Linda and I are so so sorry for your loss. Our love is with you.
We happily made Hal's acquaintance through the Canadian Club (he was a past president) in our On Top of the World community in Clearwater, Florida. Ian and I both served as president of the club during our years there. In this capacity we interacted with Hal and Thelma when planning the yearly President's Ball and other club functions. Hal also lawn bowled with us in the OTOW club and attended the yearly Canadian Club golf tournament. We ended every winter season by hosting a farewell Happy Hour. Hal and Thelma were among those who attended. He was quiet, kind, thoughtful, friendly, jovial and always willing to help if asked. He was simply a nice guy and will truly be missed. Our sincere condolences go out to Thelma and his family. We are thinking of you in this moment of sorrow.
Thelma , family and Linda, Les and i want to express our sympathy for your loss of a dear husband , Father, brother, and friend. He will be missed. During out years spent at OTOW, we will always remember what a wonderful person he was. Hold your memories close to your heart. Les and Donna Meszaros

Hal and I worked together in Russell MB in 1952-53 and have many fond memories. Eleanor and I send our condolences to Thelma and family. Those were the good times.
I’ve known Hal most of my life as he and Thelma were close friends of my parents, Rosslyn and Bill Richards. Throughout my teen years and into adulthood, he always treated me with kindness and respect. I will always remember the little things he did for my parents which meant so much (like delivering a copy of the local Cobourg paper when they were all in Florida at On Top Of The World together). His memory will always warm my heart!

Thelma, I am so sorry you have to deal with this right now, but time goes on......Lynn and Ron will be your shoulders now and you have so many friends that love you!!! The Killoran family sends you hugs and help if you need anything!!!
We are very saddened at Hal's passing. We met Hal and Thelma in 2004 when we became neighbors. Very quickly we became close friends. Hal loved to garden and took great pride in his plantings. Many evenings where spent having dinner and enjoyable conversation. Hal would enjoy a cigar on the deck when Thelma was out playing bridge and would throw the cigar butt over the hedge on our side so Thelma wouldn't know. Hal will be remembered as a humble man who was very proud of his family, a very good friend to many people and a man who cared about the community. Hal has touched many lives and will always be remembered. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him. God speed Hal.

Hal’s passing is a profound loss to the Rotary Club of Cobourg, as well as his friends and family. My condolences to all that knew Hal. I miss him already and he will be missed for years to come.
Close to thirty years ago we made the move to Cobourg. Little did we know just how special and incredible our neighbors would be. From the moment we met Hal, he made us feel like family. Hal was the most compassionate, kind, and caring person. He was truly rare. Over the years our two families came together and created so many beautiful memories that we will cherish forever. We will hold on to his contagious smile, his sense of humor, and above all, the love he shared for everyone he knew. We will see you again, neighbor. So much love to the Jacobsen & Dixon family.
