Giuseppe "Joe" Cutro

September 18, 1954 - June 18, 2021

Guiseppe “Joe” Cutro passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2021, after battling cancer for the last year, with the love of his life, his Lena, by his side.

Joe had been diagnosed with cancer almost 12 years ago. Some of the battles he experienced over the years almost took him from us. But he was a fighter and we count our blessings that we got an extra 12 years with him on this earth to make many memories and love him for his passion and flair for life! He fought to the end for his family.

Joe was one of two children and he immigrated to Cobourg in 1974 from Sicily, Italy at the age of 20. On May 10, 1975, he married the love of his life Lena (Trizzino) having met her while she was on vacation with her family in Sicily. They had two daughters, Michelle and Sylvia and he supported his family as a mason for many years before branching off and starting his own company.

There was nothing Joe loved more than his family, a good glass of wine, his golf, some Italian food and Italian music. But, there was much more to Joe. Joe was a kind man, with an electric personality. He attracted people with his smile, quick wit and contagious laugh. He enjoyed the outdoors (for golfing!), he loved the winters (indoor golfing and travelling to golf!) and he loved the summers (for golfing!). But his annual golf trip with the guys was something he always looked forward to. He and Lena travelled regularly to many different countries and enjoyed all that life had to offer them – whether a trip to Cuba (golfing!), a romantic cruise with friends or a trip home to Italy. Many wonderful memories were made while travelling alone and with friends. He was an irreplaceable friend to all who knew him.

A man of many talents and interests, Joe's friends may have known him for one or two specific endeavors, but there was so much more to him than most knew. In his earlier years he lived in Germany with his parents and is fluent in German. He played soccer as a youngster and also played on a men’s team in Cobourg. He loved watching his beloved Juventus Football (aka soccer) Club on TV. Nothing could come between the time he spent with his grandkids – which was everything to him.

Joe was the quintessential “sharp dressed man” from the time he was just a boy. Handsome, dapper, and always perfectly put together, he loved clothes and accessories and was undoubtedly one of the best dressed men any of us have ever known!

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lena of 46 years, his daughters Michelle (Gilbert) and Sylvia (Paolo). His grandchildren Cruz, Ryder, Knox, Victoria and Massimo and his sister Nina (Vincenzo), brother’s in law Carm (Karen) and Joey (Robin) and by his nieces, nephews – Rosalia (Leo, Matteo, Nicholas, Chantelle), Mary (Dino, Giulia, Anthony) and Ashley (Joe), David (Maryann), Rebecca and Jenna (Jacob). Predeceased by his parents Gaspare and Giuseppa and in-laws, Giuseppe and Rosalia.

His love of life and family will continue in the hearts of his family and everyone he has touched. Your thoughts and prayers for our Guiseppe and family are greatly appreciated.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Mule, the nursing staff in the Cancer Unit of the Northumberland Hills Hospital and the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth’s. They took care of our Joe with such care and compassion. We could not have asked for a better team. As Joe died during the COVID lockdown and many of his friends did not get to see him while he was sick, have comfort in knowing he wanted you to know he will miss you all.

Visitation will be held on Monday June 21, 2021. Guests wishing to attend the visitation must register online for their time period.

A private Mass of Christian Burial for invited guests will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cobourg on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at 1:30 pm. Anyone wishing to view the service, may do so at www.saintmichaelschurchcobourg.com .

Donations to the NHH Foundation Cancer Unit or Saint Elizabeth Health Care would be appreciated.

Lena, Michelle & Sylvia, I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. The Cutro family home was and is always a place of giving, comfort and safety. My experiences in the presence of Joe and his home were an inspiration to provide for my own family, friends and kids friends. I remember his laugh when he first fed me grappa… watching the blue jays win the world series and his generosity of hosting our high school graduation (despite making us clean the fountain first) just to name a few. The Golf gods have certainly welcomed a dedicated gentleman of the game. My utmost sincere condolences on your loss and all of the grandchildren’s. Let his legend live through you all.

To Lena, Michelle , Sylvia and family We are all so sad to learn of the departure of Joe for a better world. Too young! We will always remember him for his warm welcome at your house (with wine for sure). Been far away from Cobourg we never had the opportunity to admire his golfing talents but in soccer he was definitely a great team player. His team players will always remember his smile and humour. So many topics of discussion during our get-together. It was always interesting to share with him his broad perpective of life. Friendship never faded over the years with Joe. Damn we will miss him! Lena and your family: our thoughts and especially our prayers are with you in this difficult period

We both are very saddened by this, and must say, doing renovations on Joe and Lina's home, was always filled with Joy and Happiness each time we arrived..... And reading above, how well dressed Pino was on a daily basis, and even for lounging around the house, we couldn't make a closet strong strong enough to hold his thousands of ironed and neatly sorted closet...... We'll certainly miss you.........and quite sure you are golfing as I write this

My deepest condolences to Zia Lena, Sylvia and Michelle and their families. Most people knew him as Joe or Giuseppe but to me he was Zio Pino. He was so kind and made everyone feel like family and made sure to include everyone at family functions. That’s the type of person he was. We had so much fun playing sette mezzo on Christmas eve with the Cutro’s and Militello’s or our big fish dinners also on Christmas eve. Every time I will go golfing I will think of you my dear Zio Pino. Thanks for being such a great Zio and friend. I will miss you dearly but I know you will be our angel in the sky. Love you lots you crazy Sicilian. Tony

Our hearts are broken that our dear friend Joe has left us. We regret not having enjoyed his and Lena's company over the past year because of Covid, and all efforts made to keep him safe. We know in our hearts, Joe has travelled back home to his beloved Bavona in Sicily, and we will travel once again to enjoy each other's company and laughter! Ciao Bello!! XO💖

Paul and Sarina DePalma - June 19, 2021

So very sad to hear of the passing of Joe. Our golfing date never materialized due to "life" getting in the way. Even though we haven't socialized much since we both started our families, when we occasionally saw each other at functions, Joe was as friendly as a family member. Our heartfelt condolences to the whole family. Paul and Sarina
