It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Duncan MacLellan, announces his sudden passing at home on Saturday April 24, 2021, after a year long courageous battle in his 84th year. Charles, fondly known to many as Red, will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Tania and his two children Michael and Sherry (Wayne). Loving Papa to Tiffany (Craig), Kristen (Harry), and Brooke (Joey) and proud Great-Papa to Kinsley, Emersyn and August. Charlie was also a loving brother to sisters Jean, Carol, and Lila, brother Vincent (Florence) and predeceased by brother Alex (Shirley). Uncle Charlie will be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends. Charles was born to Vincent and Lila MacLellan in 1937 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. At the young of 17 he headed to Ontario and he began his career as a railroader for the CN Rail, to which he retired after over 40 years of service. He was appointed Reeve of Hornepayne, Ontario in 1974 serving in this capacity until 1991 and during this time Charles served on the boards of numerous organizations and committees to which he was extremely dedicated. In retirement Charles left Hornepayne for Cobourg, Ontario where in 2002 he took on a much loved second career as a Commissionaire for many establishments in the city including Kraft Foods, Northumberland Hills Hospital and Victoria Hall. Anyone who met Charlie knows he was a avid story teller who loved to talk, usually over a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons, about his many passions including politics, hockey, golf and his greatest pride of all which was his family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cunningham, Dr. Blouin and all of the oncology team that took such wonderful care, and supported Charles over this past year. Due Covid-19 restrictions there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
My sincere condolences to Charlie's family. I have fond memories of Charlie as Commissionaire at the Cobourg Town Hall. Most days upon leaving the office Charlie and I would commiserate and usually have a few laughs. He was kind, gentle and everyone at the Town Hall enjoyed his company. May he rest in peace.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the family of Charles MacLellan. "Charlie" as I called him was one of my commissionaires when I was Director of Engineering at the Northumberland Hills Hospital. He knew I was involved with the local sea cadets and whether he was at the hospital or at his post in Victoria Hall, he always asked me how the cadets were doing. I always stopped and took my time to share a few words with Charlie and give him an update. COVID does not allow us to gather and pay our proper respects to the family, but I do hope my sincere condolences in this message brings you some sympathy in your time grieving. With all respect, sincerely Chris Barker

We are so sad to hear of Uncle Charlie’s passing. I remember talking recently with him about how we would plan a family dinner after this pandemic was over and get together. I thought we would have more time with him but sadly we cannot. He was always wonderfully social, interested in others and interesting himself. He had a way to hold the floor with his speeches and spoke for all of us at family gatherings. We will miss his “radio” voice, his insights, his stories and his presence going forward. It will not be the same without him. On behalf of his sister Carol, she is so very sad to know of his loss. We will try to think of Charlie at peace, fishing with Uncle Alex and cousin Stan on a beautiful lake in heaven. Our prayers and thoughts are with Aunt Tanya, Michael, Sherry and family at this sad time. With our deepest sympathies, Maureen, Spencer and Cameron Strickley

Dear Aunt Tania, Michael and Sherry, My heart is so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to all of you. I have so many memories of Uncle Charlie. One of my earliest is of taking the train to visit all of you up North and Uncle Charlie taking Lila and me to see the bears at the dump. I remember the sweet aroma of his pipe. Uncle Charlie always had great pictures and stories and I especially loved the one of him giving the Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau a haircut in Hornepayne. When my parents moved to Colborne we got to see each other more often. I have memories of us at your home and trailer, Uncle Charlie taking us for a tour of the area and going out on the water with his boat. Uncle Charlie also spoke often of his family and his beautiful girls (grandchildren ) and their many accomplishments. Uncle Charlie became the spokesperson for the MacLellan family, he was the family historian and my father (Vincent) was thrilled when at his and my mother Florence's 50th wedding anniversary, Uncle Charlie made a re-memorable toast. My father Vincent and my mother Florence are devastated at the death of Charlie and send their deepest condolences. As does my husband Dan and boys Lucas and Thomas. Uncle Charlie will always be fondly remembered. With love from, Jane Margaret, Daniel, Lucas and Thomas Zingone.
