Luella Grace Teskey

August 16, 1921 - March 26, 2021

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Luella Grace Teskey, August 16,1921 – March 26, 2021, our loving and devoted mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She left us while sleeping peacefully at Golden Plough Lodge, Cobourg, Ontario. She was in her 99th year.
Born in Ottawa, father Arthur and mother Jennie Whitcomb, Lue witnessed incredible changes to her world growing up with her sisters Marguerite and Shirley. Lue loved playing the piano and was awarded with First Class Honours by the Canadian College of Music.
After the war, she moved to BC and worked at the Vernon Preparatory School where she met her loving husband, Lionel Teskey.
Luella lived a full life and was a loving figure to many, including her late husband Lionel and daughter Lynn. She is survived by her daughters Dale, Laura, and Grace, and sons Glenn, Mark and Carl and their significant others. She was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to many.
Luella had a big heart and cared for so many. She appreciated nature and enjoyed her outings to the lake and countryside. Luella had many talents and hobbies, including gardening, cooking, quilting, knitting and crocheting, music and dance. She had a knack for bringing positivity, love and laughter into a room wherever she went.
Most of all, Luella loved her family selflessly and dedicated her life to caring for everyone around her. She had a beautiful soul and always made the best of every occasion. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

There will be no service at this time, a celebration of life to be at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.MacCoubrey.com.

Ahhhhh Laura. Marius and I are so sorry to hear that your dear Mama Lou passed away. No matter what age you are, we both know how difficult and sad it is to lose a parent. While we only met her a couple of times, we remember her all dressed up, so friendly and so nice and quite the chatterbox! Remember that while your heart is broken, she will be forever in your heart and all those wonderful memories of her will get you through those dark, gloomy days. With fondness and our sincerest sympathy – Diane and Marius

Aunt Luella always had a special place in my heart. I always got excited when I heard about their next trip out to stay with mom and dad. When I was young she was my confidant and later their visits meant we went dancing Saturday nights at the legion, walked around the block or just sitting on the patio with cold one talking and laughing. When she spoke of her family it was with great love and pride. Lue and Lionel loved birding with mom and dad, always meant a visit to the pub for lunch they loved going for drives local or around the province. I can still picture Lue knitting, crocheting, reading and her and Lionel playing crib for hours. Mom and Lue wrote "novels" back and forth on a regular basis describing everything they did everyday. They were always teased about this! When mom fell and could not write anymore Lue made sure she kept those cards and notes coming to cheer mom up. I know Lue was devastated when mom passed. I was envious of her green thumb and her beautiful gardens and had admired her determination to keep walking to keep those legs moving. She was a fighter to the end and I will miss her smile and her laugh and genuine kindness. I am relieved she has no more pain but it is hard to say goodbye. I imagine the reunion in heaven is pretty sweet! I love you Lue. Hugs to all the family. She was one of a kind !

I am so very sorry for your loss. I knew her through Laura and loved to visit with her on her visits to Ridgeway. She was a very special lady and it was always a pleasure to talk with her. She was what I would call, the salt of the earth, and I admired her very much. What shone through was her love for her family, and their love for her. Although I didn't see her often, I will truly miss her. She touched my life and I will always remember her with the greatest fondness.

Thank you for telling me that Luella has passed on. I remember with gratitude her visit to me in Oxford after Lynn had stayed here on several occasions.

Frank Denton - March 29, 2021

Lue has been a best friend since 1983. I remember my first visit to the Spring Valley home with Lynn in April of that year. We toured the emerging spring garden and watched the birds out the front window. When Lynn and I were leaving, Lue showed me where the key was hidden and said I should make myself at home if I ever came by and no one was there. She hardly knew me but gave me her trust and love from the beginning. She gave so much love and care to her family. And she was surrounded by their love and support right to the end of her final days. Frank Denton

What a beautiful lady, so sad to hear of your great loss. She lived in the same apartment building as my Mom and I was fortunate to have had many pleasant visits with her. She was always busy working on a project and obviously loved and appreciated her family. I'm sure she has left you with lots of wonderful memories.

Salina Dale - March 28, 2021

Dear My Beloved Nana, I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like waking up every day for the second half of my life knowing I can’t talk to you or give you hugs. You have been a strong presence in my life ever since my very first memory as a toddler, and throughout my life, as we lived under the same roof much of the time. You continued to write and visit me when I moved to Ottawa and Toronto during my adult life. You have managed to build a strong connection with my daughter, your great grand-daughter, through your regular visits and letters to her as well. No matter what chaos surrounded me, I always knew I could count on you and your unconditional love. You are the nucleus of our big family, the centre of our universe. Never a bad thing to say about anyone or one to complain, you constantly brought endless supplies of love and happiness to those around you, despite your hardships. And you’ve been through a lot in your almost-100-years of life. You’re my hero, protector of my heart, and my guardian angel. Everything good in me comes from you. Thank you for teaching me so many things, from Scrabble to badminton, and instilling in me a love of reading and an appreciation of music. Most of all, thank you for teaching me how to live life and be a good person. You always had endless patience and kindness to spare. Even when I would complain about dumb things, you reminded me to think about what I could be grateful for, like the gift of family and good friends. Thank you for teaching me to live every minute to the fullest by constantly learning, meeting new people and embracing new adventures. I know you were a wonderful mother figure and giving friend to many- I’m not sure how you managed to do it all. I promise to try to follow in your footsteps, be good to one another, and honour your legacy. In the end, I regret that you suffered and were so isolated at times. But even then, you fought with strength, grace, and selflessness, telling me “I’m ok...I love you too” days before you left us. I am so grateful for the time I had with you. I will miss your company and the touch of your skin. I know you’ll be just a memory away. Maybe I can find you in some big band music, the smell of lavender, the sound of a piano, a beautiful garden, a chickadee’s song, my daughter's smile, or in the warmth of one of your exquisite quilts that wraps me up like one of your hugs. I love you forever, Nana. Rest peacefully. Love Salina

Awe, that smile - never wavered in the 40+ years I knew her. And her laugh - I can still hear it. She was like a 2nd mom to me and a surrogate grandma to my kids. I hope you realize what a jewel she was. I know the last couple of years were hard on everyone. She is at peace now and I hope all of you can also find some peace within your family. My thoughts are with you. Hugs to you all. Marg
