It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Joana Knights, at Northumberland Hills Hospital this morning. She passed away peacefully after having fought a long battle with cancer. A wonderful loving wife of Edward John Ernest Knights (Jack) for over 40 years, (predeceased). Also missed by her brother Fred Monte (Donna). She leaves behind her children, Barbara Pauline (of Indiana), Peter James (Lydia) of Grafton, and Beverley Joan of Cobourg. Loving grandchildren, Bethany Molina, Ryan Kathleen Sage and Jordan (Crystal) Knights, Kirstin (Scott) Cooper, Kurt Salzmann, Joseph Bullock, Sara Bullock (Justin Cooney), and Jacob Livingstone, and a wonderful legacy of many great-grandchildren, Harmony, Madeline, Rowan, Jayson, Haleigh, Lucas, Cameron, Jackson, Austin, Ethen, and Casey.
Our mother touched many lives and will be remembered fondly for her out-going personality, her willingness to teach others, and her desire for fun and adventure. Mom was always ready to learn, to laugh and had a knack of being able to include people wherever she went. Whether on a bus, train or plane she would start a conversation and was genuinely interested in what that person had to say.
Always the teacher, until recently, Mom taught knitting and the exercise class at St. Peters. From an early age girls were taught to knit and crochet. Mom created many beautiful crochet masterpieces during her life which we will cherish for years to come.
Mom always sang, in the car, or on a bus, she sang Christmas Carols with taxi drivers, it didn’t matter. On a bus trip, she would start belting out a merry tune and soon had everyone singing along. Even in recent days if you mentioned her doctor (who is easy on the eye), her eyes would pop right open, making us all laugh.
She will be missed…the memory of her will remain in our hearts….until we meet again Mom.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank her amazing caregivers who made Mom’s journey as comfortable as possible.
Mom will be cremated and her ashes will be mixed with Dads, as per their wishes. A ceremony will follow next August 2021. If you would like to receive a notice of this service, please contact Beverley Knights at 905-372-4764. Those wishing can make a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

We will miss Joana and her cheerful visits with us. Rest in peace dear friend.
I met Joana two years ago when I joined the Encore Club and she was exactly as you describe her. We had an immediate connection and spent many wonderful hours together at the church, morning coffee outings and monthly lunch dates. She was always smiling, singing, telling cute stories and her much loved music was always playing when I visited her at home. My sincere condolences to tge family.
Our deepest sympathies to the family. A wonderful tribute. Aunt Joanne's laughter was always present in any situation and will be missed.
I will miss Joana’s and great spirit. She was always so positive about everything. I took her to white feather in Oshawa one day and she loved it, on the way home we got lost and she just laughed and sang songs until we found a Reid’s dairy and of course we went in for the best ever ice cream cone. On the rest of our journey we came across the lavender fields and she loved it. She was always so happy, I will miss her a lot. My heartfelt sympathies to her family. Love Debbie

So sorry for the loss of your dear Mom. I met Joanna in Centreton many years ago and enjoyed her friendly nature and happy smiles whenever you saw her.
My dad told me about your mom passing. We are thinking of you all. So sorry for your loss. Aunt Joanne’s laugh was contagious. We all loved our Aunt Joanne visits, eating butter tarts and having a good laugh together. I still remember as a child how much we also loved to visit the store and try out the player piano while Aunt Joanne would knit away. She even taught me how to make those hooking rugs. I’m so sad we couldn’t get home to meet up at dad’s. Sending you lots of love❤️❤️ The van-Finzels

Sending my condolences to you, Bev and your family at this difficult time. What a lovely tribute to your Mom. Cherish all your memories.
I met Joana when she was visiting Barbara and will always remember her welcoming bright smile and personal warmth. She must have been a wonderful mother to have such courageous and devoted children who cared for her so deeply. “Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”
To all family members of Joana--yes, she had an amazing voice--great personality--and apparently a very busy woman--she will be missed by many--will always be in my prayers--know I am especially thinking of you Bev--Sincerely--Jayne
