Peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Violet Peiponen. He will be sadly missed by his family in Denmark and his friends here in Canada. Helge was a sweet, caring and gentle soul who was very generous with charity and selflessness, which was reflected in his enjoyment of driving a school bus in his retirement years. Honouring Helge’s request, there will be no funeral service and his cremated remains were interred in Cobourg Union Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
We have lost a wonderful neighbour. Helge was my neighbour at Legion Village and he was a very sweet and generous person. We will miss our daily chats usually on our way to the dining room but I missed our chats lately due to the pandemic. I am sure he is at peace now and he can ride his bike again and that will make him very happy. RIP Helge. That will make him very happy.

Dear Helge, As your closest relatives, we send you these last words from Denmark. When you chose to move to Canada, many years ago, it was a little coincidental. But you have told us, that you accomplished everything you ever wished for. You have always shown a lot of interest and presence, which we have highly appreciated. You have followed our lives closely, despite the distance between Denmark and Canada. We will always cherish you and your embracing and positive spirit. We will miss you! My condolences to Helge's family and friends. Helge was truly a kind and gentle person. He and my father Aldo were good friends and I recall as a child visiting his country home surrounded by fields where my siblings and I played. May you rest in peace, Mr. Mikkelsen.
