We were greatly saddened to learn of our friend Igor's passing. We will remember him and all of you in our prayers. May his memory be eternal!

We thank everyone for all the support and kind words. We didn’t see dad much growing up as he was at see a lot. But he was like air for us. We didn’t see him, but he was always around and much needed. Прощай папочка... ALL THE BEST!

My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. You were a wonderful and kind person and I was glad I had the opportunity to call you my friend. You will be dearly missed but not forgotten. Even though you are not here I will think of you often. And I will say this one time and one time only for you and only you " GO CAPS " .

I was shocked and very saddened to hear about Captain Poletaev departure from this world. He was not only an exceptional Master Mariner but also and foremost an officer and a gentleman. A kind and decent man, always respectful, always smiling and always performed his job and duties to the entire satisfaction of his superiors. In time of need he never shied away from extra work and provided his vast knowledge, experience and expertise to the benefit of the company. To his family, please accept my heartfelt sympathy and condolences. We will always remember Captain Poletaev as a loyal friend and a devoted colleague. May he rest in eternal peace.

I had the pleasure of working with and knowing Capt. Igor for 11 years. He was always helpful and incredibly kind. I very much enjoyed all of our conversations over the years. He was keen to talk about his Washington Capitals and of course Ovechkin! He always spoke fondly of his family, especially his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. Occasionally he would talk about Russia and Soviet Union and I found it so fascinating. The last conversation I had with Capt. Igor was right before I went out on maternity leave and we just talked about family. He gave me a big hug and wished me well. I will always cherish that conversation and all the conversations and memories I have of him-- especially in his aviators! Capt. Igor and family are in my and my families daily prayers. May God Bless him and may he rest in peace.

I communicated with Captain Poletaev shortly prior to his passing and his son was there to pass on my words. Captain Poletaev was a professional’s professional. A very hard working man who was a dedicated Husband and father. He would regularly come to my desk on business and which would evolve into interesting discussions on his very interesting history in Russia and at sea. And of course, his intense interest in ice hockey and his favorite player Ovechkin!! Professionally he could be counted on to maximize the stowage of the ship and account for last minute changes to the cargo volumes and that last minute Class 1 box or surprise break bulk piece. I will very much miss Captain Poletaev and keep him in my thoughts for a long time.

A number of years ago, I had the opportunity to discuss Captain Igor’s life with him when he allowed me the privilege of writing a personal interest story about him for our Company newsletter. He was such an interesting person. He discussed his background, upbringing and maritime training. But mainly he was so pleased when he discussed his family. His pride shone through as he talked about his wife and children. It was a pleasure to listen... My sincere condolences on your family’s loss. May Captain Igor’s soul rest in peace and his memory be a blessing to all those who knew him.

Captain Igor was the best of the best. My condolences to his family, he loved you all very much and spoke of you often, especially his grandchildren.

It was with great sadness that I received news about Capt. Igor passing away. I used to have regular discussions with him about our operational issues that we faced and he always went the extra mile to do what best could be done under all the circumstances. Captain Poletaev was always very nice to me, and I will definitely miss seeing him at the office. I wish strength and peace to the family during this difficult time.

Capt Igor was a dedicated, hard working, enthusiastic person who loved life was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a colleague, a mentor, a dedicated employee but even more he was a friend. He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to take the extra step to make sure what he was involved in was done to his satisfaction. I thoroughly enjoyed talking hockey with him especially when the US played Russia in the Olympics and the Juniors. He will be missed.
