Peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Sunday, April 19, 2020, Jim Doubt at 76 years of age. Beloved husband of Lorna Doubt (nee Pitt). Loving father of Stephen Doubt (Dayne Ortved) and Anna Doubt (Sandy Sweet). Cherished grandfather of Lucy and Neve. Dear brother of George Doubt (Joan) and Doug Doubt (Beth); and brother-in-law of Dennis and Susan Pitt. Jim was born and raised in Cochrane Ontario and practised structural engineering and architecture in Cobourg for 42 years. He was proud of his community and was an active member and volunteer in many activities. A private family graveside service will be held at the Green Section of Cobourg Union Cemetery. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to Beyond the Blue Box, or Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers (please specify donations are designated to CADS Durham) or a charity of their choice.
By accident I wondered if you two were still living in Cobourg, and I came across this memorial page. I was both shocked but amazed that I was able to come across this information. My heart goes out to you Lorna as I knew how much you both loved each other and would remain together for as long as you did. You may not remember me- Al Lubkowski: I was married, albeit shortly to June Pura, and I believe visited you in Cobourg with my girl friend at the time, Wilhelmina from NS. Be good to talk to you.. Hi Lorna, I didn’t know Jim well, although I remember fondly Steeve always addressing him as “father” as in “Yes, father” “Father, could you pass the salt” and so on. Steeve is one of my very best friends, and so I met Jim a handful of times mostly at McGill, and occasionally here in BC. Anna & I shared laughs over the years at McGill too. Steeve mentioned that you were finding a lot of solace in the many kind words others are expressing here on this memorial, and I wanted take a moment to add some of my own. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. We lost my father over a decade ago now, and it was rough. I can imagine it’s an especially difficult time to lose a loved one just now. Lorna and Family, Please accept my sympathy in the loss of Jim. You will not know me, but I was one year behind Jim all through school in Cochrane. I shared a room with Jim many years ago at The Horseshoe Valley Resort for the "Cochrane High School Athletes Reunion." It was good to renew his acquaintance after a long time. Jim was one of the many fine people who attended CHS and we have, sadly, lost too many too soon!

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Jim for the past 30+ years through my positions in the Cobourg Planning Department. Jim helped shape the community we both love with a great deal of passion and diligence. He always exercised his trade with the utmost in professionalism and dignity, all the while exhibiting a quick and dry sense of humour. I consider Jim a great influence on me professionally and personally. He was a mentor, colleague and friend, and I will miss him dearly.

My Father told me about Mr. Doubt's passing and I wanted to extend my sympathies to his family. I will never forget what a kind man he was. When I babysat Stephen and Anna he would insist on walking me home - which was literally right next door. He would walk me to the end of my driveway and wait until I was safely in the house. In my experience Jim was a very special person both in his manners, sence of humour and extent of his generosity toward others. In his professional capacity he was a great help to the Cobourg Museum Foundation as it worked to reconstruct the two heritage buildings that now make up Cobourg's Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre.
