David Gregory Pike

November 10, 1959 - March 8, 2020

Surrounded by family, David passed away peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on March 8th 2020. He was the loving husband of Katherine (Milne) for 35 years. Proud father of Sarah and Brittney and devoted grandfather to Owen and Kylah. Survived by his loving parents Adeline and Eric Pike. He will be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends whom David considered to be part of his family. David was born in Corner Brook Newfoundland on November 10th, 1959. His family relocated to Ontario, and eventually settled in Unionville. Raised in an environment of love for family, David had a close relationship with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. Throughout the years they enjoyed camping at Jackson’s Point Salvation Army campground, various trips to Nfld and Florida, boating, waterskiing, picnics, regular Sunday dinners, parties and gatherings. David was always just a phone call away to those he loved. In his younger years David was an active member of The Salvation Army Church, Cedarbrae Citadel. David and his family developed many lifelong friendships though their participation in the church. He fostered a close relationship with God which he held throughout his life. In his twenties, David served as a reservist in the Canadian Air Force Squadron 411. He enjoyed studying military history and collecting military memorabilia. David attended Markham District High School. It was here he met his future wife Katherine (Kathie) Milne and created many friendships, lasting his lifetime. David and Kathie were married June 15th, 1985 in Markham Ontario. A few years later David and Kathie relocated to Whitby, Ontario. Together they had two beautiful daughters who David adored and cherished, Sarah (1987) and Brittney (1991). David and his family enjoyed camping, their trailer at Jay Lake in Minden, and many family trips to Cuba, somewhere David loved to visit. It was in Cuba where David showed his generous spirit delivering baseball equipment to local children. David was a kind and gentle soul and was very protective of those he loved. Caring and generous, David often put others before himself. He took pride involving himself in his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities. He was always the loudest parent cheering his swimmer or hockey player on. One of David’s greatest prides in life were his two grandchildren Owen and Kylah. He took every opportunity to spend as much time as possible with them. He looked forward to every vacation with his family. David was employed by Lenbrook Canada in Pickering, Ontario. He enjoyed many years working alongside his coworkers and loved his work family.David had a gentle spirit and loved nature and all animals. Throughout the years he surrounded himself with many family pets and enjoyed a calming walk in the woods or a trip to the zoo. He passed his compassionate nature and love of animals on to his two daughters. Anyone who knew David would agree that he had a brilliant mind. He was able to recall historical facts and dates on almost any topic. He had an avid interest in science, politics, nature and space. He was the go-to guy if you needed ‘the answer’. Inspired by his mother, he was also a great chef and his delicious meals will be missed by all! A movie buff at heart David enjoyed the classics. David demonstrated a great artistic ability, drawing and painting at leisure. His daughters have many wonderful memories of their father signing to them and his love of music. Socializing and keeping in close touch with friends was an important part of his lifestyle. Those who knew David would agree he loved a good party and a great joke… never a dull moment. Four years ago, as empty nesters David and Kathie relocated to Grafton, Ontario. Although David’s life was cut short, their new home fulfilled David’s dream of living in the country and enjoying nature at his doorstep. David and his father enjoyed watching and feeding the many varieties of birds on the property. Evening sunsets and his interactions with neighbourhood wildlife gave David endless pleasure. We wish to thank Lakeridge Oshawa, Peterborough and Cobourg hospitals, and the many amazing doctors, nurses and staff who battled alongside him and on his behalf for the past two years. Special thanks to Dr. Mulé and the Northumberland Palliative Care team. David and his family are truly grateful for the work that you do. David had requested that no service or funeral be held. There will be a celebration of his life. Details and date to be announced. Appreciation of David’s love for children and his understanding of battling illness he requested that donations be made to The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Kathie, my heart is broken for you and your beautiful girls. Dave was so full of life, mischievous, kind hearted and always welcoming to everyone. He always greeted with a shout out and you knew immediately your presence was wanted. You were the wind beneath his wings, silent and strong. I can't imagine how your life will be without him, but you will get through it with help from your girls. I will miss seeing his smiling face...if you need anything at all Kathie please don't hesitate to ask. Take care of yourself. Suzanne

Debra Pike - March 11, 2020

Kathie and family, Uncle Eric and Aunt Ad,Debbie and I were so saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. He was my only cousin on the Pike side of the family and I’m finding that knowing he’s gone has left a void in my life. Because we lived far apart we didn’t see each other often, but the times we did have together were always memorable. I am so happy we were able have that visit with Dave in September. I’ll always remember the beer he “forced” me to drink that day. Please know that our thoughts are with you all during this very difficult time. Kevin and Debbie

Kathie & Girls, we are shocked to hear this devastating news. We had no idea Dave was sick. Stan has told me so many stories about growing up with Dave and the hours and hours they spent together just doing the stuff kids do. Stan is deeply saddened and feels so badly that he hadn't seen Dave for so long. Please know that our hearts hurt for all of you.
