Arthur and I spent our first year in the Army in England in 1960 near Camberley and in the evenings chasing the fair sex in the local area, where Arthur won the race: he met lovely Maureen. We went on to Germany for a year or so and then for a memorable two years in Aden, with Maureen, Gregory and a charming little dog whose name escapes me.We’ve kept in touch since then with many reunions. I shall miss Arthur’s occasional eccentricities and his steadfast loyalty as a great and trusted friend. My condolences to Maureen, Gregory, Siobhan and all the family.’’
