It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Beer, age 96, on Friday October 11, 2019 at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Beer. Loving mother of Lidianne Northwood, Grafton; Catherine Barlow, Picton; and Paul and Suzanne Beer, Markham. Cherished and supportive grandmother to Bengt and Amy Northwood; Emma, Noah and Dylan Barlow; Samantha and Tyler Beer. Fondly remembered by her great grandchildren Brynn and Adelyn Northwood; Phoenix Barlow, Hamish, Gwendolyn and Enid Barlow; and Brody Beer. Patricia was born in Aurora, Ontario to parents Charles and Margaret Bilbrough and was sister to Alf, George, Margaret, Douglas, Ruth, Kay and Eric She met Tom while working at the leather tannery Tom's father managed, Beardmore Tannery in Aurora, and it was immediate love. They married January 22, 1949 and began their life together at the Beer family property in Georgetown. She was supportive in the family dairy and mixed crop farm for many years and later was engaged in school related activities as Tom became a teacher. While raising Lidianne, Cathy and Paul, Pat always enjoyed welcoming friends and family into their home. Pat led the Arts and Crafts of Georgetown for many years and had a large social network. Later in life they moved to Port Hope enjoying the arts, new friends and always with a dog by their side. They moved to Cobourg in 2010 and Tom passed away in 2012, finally Pat moved from Cobourg to Bethany Lodge in Markham in 2018. She continued to enjoy sharing good food and being with family, friends and dogs. You were never one for idle hands: always busy with arts and crafts projects, helping her neighbours, providing a welcome home to all our friends, and volunteering where needed. Your friends and community cherished you. You taught us that family is our strength - to celebrate the good times together and support one another with love. You were number one fan to all the grandkids and never saw them as anything less than wonderful. You were always there for us, and taught all of us to carry on that tradition. You will always be in our hearts. A private family memorial gathering will be held in November. Condolences received at www.maccoubrey.com.
I will always think fondly of Mrs. Beer as she was a very welcoming person and seemed to always be smiling. The Beers invited me to spend a couple of weeks with the family in Europe when I was 18 and that is a highlight of my youth. I also remember sitting under the stars at a campfire somewhere on their property and learning about the car she wanted - a Mercedes convertible. I wonder if she ever got one. Sincere condolences to Lidianne, Cathy and Paul.
Paul, We are so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers
