James Charles Dunk

July 14, 1932 - May 19, 2019

Trent Hills resident James Charles (“Jim”) Dunk, 86, passed away peacefully in Kingston General Hospital on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Born July 14, 1932 in Campbellford ON to Charles and Jean Dunk (née Willis), Jim was given the nickname “Nails” by his young chums for his toughness and sense of fair play. These qualities were much needed when his father Charles enlisted and went overseas for a number of years during World War II and Jim was sent to work on the farm of his uncle, the late Oliver Willis. He married his much-loved wife Claire (née White) in 1954. They moved often around Ontario as Jim was promoted to different positions in various branches of the Royal Bank. During this time their three children were born: Catherine (John) Ruch, John, and Jeff (Heather Hugginson).

Jim later joined Guaranty Trust as a branch manager in Toronto (during which he chased and caught a would-be cheque forger). He and his family relocated to Campbellford, where he took up the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Public Utilities Commission. He also volunteered as treasurer with the local branch of the Cancer Society. Upon retirement, he became a familiar figure walking and cycling around town, volunteering at Campbellford Memorial Hospital, and visiting Dooher’s, his favourite bakery.

Jim is survived by Claire, his children, his grandson Kaleb (Cheryl) Ruch, great grandchildren William and Carys, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Joyce Fox.

At his request, no service will be held. Plans are being made for a celebration of Jim’s life, and friends and family will be notified of date and details. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Janet and Dan Derumaux - June 4, 2019

Janet and I send our sincere sympathy and condolences to you all. Jim was a decent, honourable gentle man always ready with a smile. We always enjoyed any contact with him.He had a good sense of humour. One day, in the late fall, I was in a line behind him at the bank. In a devilish moment, I thrust my forefinger into his back and said:”Your money or your life!” Without missing a beat, Jim turned and said:”My life, I’m saving for Christmas!” We had a good chuckle and went on with our day.The world could use more Jim Dunks!Janet and Dan Derumaux
