Born August 15, 1926 in Great Longstone, near Blackwell Derbyshire, England. Passed away on March 13, 2019 at Northumberland Hills Hospital Cobourg at the age of 92. Loving husband of Patricia. Father of Margaret (Ralph), Phil (Andrea) and Andrew. Step-father of Vivienne (Chris) and Richard (Jenny). Grandfather of Amy, Kimberley, Peter and Jacob, and great grandfather of Mattea. Step-grandfather to Nicola, Alex, Sebastian and Juliana Bathie. Served in Royal Navy 1944 to 1947. Engineering graduate of Loughborough College 1951. Emigrated to Canada 1958. Editor of MacLean Hunter’s magazines, “Canadian Machinery”, “Design Engineering” to 1971. Appointed General Manager, and (later) Vice President, Canadian Nuclear Association. Involved in founding Canadian Nuclear Society (of Nuclear professionals). Awards included: Fellowships of Engineering Institute of Canada, and (UK) Institution of Production Engineers. Also awarded Ontario Medal of Citizenship for volunteer work in Cobourg for which he received the Rotary Paul Harris Award and where he was on the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Northumberland, Founding Director of NeighbourLink Northumberland. Received Ontario Medal of Citizenship in 2000 for work in those organizations. Editor for over 20 years of St. Peter’s magazine ‘Keynotes’. Author; “Cobourg’s Churches over the Life of the Town” published in 2012. Executive Committee Member of Diocese of Toronto and lay delegate to National Synod. A service will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Tuesday March 19, 2019 at 11:30 a.m., with visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Dear Pat,I was saddened to read about the passing of Jim. I wasn't aware of his many accomplishments. He was such a humble man, he would never think of mentioning his many experiences and rewards in life. No wonder you made such a lovely couple! Both of you, so giving of your time and energy. I know you will miss Jim dearly, as will so many others. It was a pleasure to know such a wonderful man. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
