Rosemary Jacqueline Callander Hebert

October 30, 1920 - January 9, 2019

Peacefully at the Cobourg  Golden Plough Lodge in her 99th year supported by the warmth of her loving family.  Beloved wife of Gerry Hebert and loving mother of her two children Margo and James.  Dear grandmother of Christopher and Graham, beloved mother-in-law of Peter Clark and Melanie Read.  Predeceased by her brother Russel, her husband and brothers  and sisters in-law  Denise, Yvette, Raymonde,  Yvan and  Leon.  Also missed by her cousin Muriel (Swart) McDade and family in Scotland, her brother-in-law Vienney Hebert and many extended, close family members.  Having a love for life and talents in the visual arts and performing arts, Rosemary graced us with her oil paintings, piano playing and smart sense of humor.  Although encouraged by her parents to pursue a musical career in piano and having graduated from the McGill Conservatory of Music, she discovered painting in the 1930’s and later enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts where she thrived.  Her art work was temporarily paused by true love coming into her life, two children and WWII.  Years later she would pick up her brush again and, with the help of family, she converted her apartment into an art studio where she spent hours each day transforming canvas into beautiful images.  She had a successful vernissage at the age of 90 in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, several exhibitions in Montreal, an art show in the library of her new home town, Cobourg, and participation in the art walk last summer.   In addition to her love for the arts, Rosemary also enjoyed learning about new discoveries in science, medicine and technology.  We thank the caring and loving staff of the Legion Village and the Golden  Plough Lodge where she continued her painting.  Her friendly charm attracted numerous friends and she will be missed by many.  “Art in all its forms,-music, pastels, watercolors and oils – has been a lifelong passion… I see color everywhere”  A celebration of life will take place in the spring in Montreal after interment next to her husband.  Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Canada https://vetscanada.org/donate.php or the charity of your choice.
