Douglas Glenn Bryan

Douglas “Doug” Glenn Bryan, 79, of Cobourg, Ontario, passed away, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at his home. Douglas was born May 8, 1938 in Mindemoya, Ontario on the Manitoulin Island to George and Hazel Bryan. He graduated from Sudbury Mining and Technical School in 1955, and almost immediately took on the world as an entrepreneur by buying a corner store and gas station in Naughton, Ontario with his partner in this great adventure, Simone. Next, it was on to Chapleau, Ontario to try their hands at the crazy life of owning and operating a motel and restaurant in the Great White North. In 1976, Doug & Simone took their growing children down south and settled in Cobourg, where life flourished for everyone.  Doug was a hard-working man who could put his hand to almost anything that needed to be fixed or built. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, but most of all, his greatest pleasure was breaking bread with family around the table. Douglas is survived by the love of his life, wife Simone; his son Glenn Bryan and soon-to-be-son-in-law Chuck Cawthorn of Calgary, Alberta; his daughter Janet Catton, son-in-law Craig Catton, and his bright-shining stars, granddaughters Meaghan and Sarah Catton of Cobourg; his sister Marian Brydges, his brother Daniel Bryan, his brother-in-law Will Mahu, his sisters-in-law Shirley Hill and Lois Morris and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel, and his brothers Ronald and Eugene. Friends and Family may call to visit at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 6.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 7 at Trinity United Church, 284 Division Street, Cobourg.
