Edward John Robertson

April 20, 1931 - September 26, 2017

Passed away peacefully, after a long illness, at the Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg, Ontario on September 26, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born in Dundee, Scotland on April 20, 1931 to Thomas and Annie Robertson (nee McKelvie). He is survived by his beloved wife, Dilys Robertson and his five children - (each born in a separate country) Anne (Jonathan) Kinghorn of Glasgow Scotland, Fiona Robertson of Kent England, Jane (Stuart) Planner of Dorset England, Amelia (Michael) Dull of Winston-Salem North Carolina, and Thomas (Erin) Robertson of Toronto, Ontario. He will be sadly missed by his six grandchildren with whom he spent many happy hours: Thomas, Jenny, Peter, Eleanor, Maggie and Isaac. He will also be missed by his former wife and friend to the whole family, Morag Robertson. Eddie earned two degrees from St. Andrew’s University in Scotland and served in the Royal Air Force as an intelligence officer before embarking on a successful and illustrious career spanning all corners of the world, including parts of Africa, Scotland, England and Canada. In England, he held positions as Research Director for the Engineering Employers Association and as Director of Industrial Relations for the Confederation of British Industry. In Canada, he served as Deputy Minister in the Manitoba Government, Chair of the Manitoba Energy Board, and as a member of the Ontario Energy Board. He moved with his wife to Cobourg in 2002 and contributed to the community as a member of the Cobourg Library Board and the Lakefront Utilities Board. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Robertson. Eddie was a lifelong voracious reader and intellectual. His dry wit and flair for storytelling will be long-remembered and appreciated by friends and family members alike.
