It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephenie Ann Burke, peacefully in hospital with family at her side, on July 9, 2017, in her 35th year. A graduate of Laurentian University and a nurse for eight years at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, Ontario, Stephenie is the beloved daughter of Steven and Barbara Burke (nee Knox) of Chelmsford; loving sister of Michelle Burke (Bryan) of Bowmanville, Laurie McCulloch (Dan) of Cobourg, Lisa Brooks Dolley of Port Hope, and Craig Brooks (Ang) of Grafton; granddaughter of Allan and Louise Turcotte of Lively; and caring aunt to Cassandra, Drew, Jordan, Trinity, Adam, Leah, and little Emmett. She will also be sadly missed by her “second mom and dad,” Pierre and Evelyn Godin of Smiths Falls; her many other aunts, uncles, and cousins; her countless friends; her colleagues in the medical field; and her devoted and protective dog Marley. A fighter until the very end, Stephenie’s courage, determination, and willingness to share her experiences inspired and helped many other young adults with cancer. Her selfless, loving, and giving nature will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have Stephenie in their lives. In keeping with Stephenie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or graveside service. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Thursday July 13, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Reception Centre (East entrance). In lieu of flowers as an expression of sympathy, donations to the following organizations would be appreciated: Young Adult Cancer Canada, Homeward Bound Rescue, or the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary.
