Wendy Susan Hare

August 28, 1956 - January 7, 2017

Our sweet girl died on Saturday, January 7 at her home in Port Hope, Ontario. Wendy was born August 28, 1956. She left peacefully surrounded by her very loving family and her cherished dog, Penny. Wendy leaves behind a rich legacy of her love, creativity and humour in all that she did but especially with her family. She met Wayne Hare, the love of her life, at age 15 in Muskoka and was married to him for more than 41 years. They had two loving children, Samuel Hughes Hare and Bronwen Sarah Hare. The family expanded to include Sam’s wife Nicole McClughan and Bronwen’s husband Michael Rosenplot, and her two beautiful grandchildren Carter and Bennett (Benny). Wendy, over six feet tall, beautiful, funny and famously well-organized was the centre of their lives and would have done anything for them. A close family, they enjoyed so many things together including family vacations always full of fun, quirky humour and music. She had many travels including to China with her sister Kate to find her goddaughter Molly. Wendy had a career of more than 30 years but it was creativity that was central to her life – a writer, photographer, and visual artist she constantly recorded the world around her and the world of her rich imagination. She wrote several novels including one she finished in the last weeks of her life.  Wendy was born the third of seven children. She is dearly missed by her mother Joan Hughes, her sisters and brothers Peter, Jan, Kate, Mary Jo, Bill and Sarah and the Hare family, Marjorie, Rodney, Kirk and Janis. Many other dear friends whom Wendy considered family will also miss her. She will join her father, Art Hughes, who died a few months earlier.  Let’s remember Wendy's frequent parting advice to her kids: "Please don't eat the daisies". In lieu of daisies, Wendy’s wish was for donations to be given to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.
