Verne E. Thompson

THOMPSON, Verne E. – Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital, on Friday, January 22, 2016, in his 92nd year.  Beloved husband of Margaret and the late Phyllis.  Dear son of the late Garnet and the late Gertrude.  Loving father of Beth (Harold Fradsham) and Gail (Bruce) Burns.  He will be sadly missed by Margaret’s children Catherine (Jim) Gowans, Andrew (Mary Lou) Haynes and David (Tina) Haynes.  Brother of the late Jean Tucker, the late Jack Thompson, Marion McGary, the late Anne Wilson and Helen Delanty.  Cherished grandfather of Joe, Verne, Sabrina, Ian, Brent, Krystle, Matthew, Nick, Jenn, Christine, Elyse, Queenie, Andrea and Christine.  Great grandfather of Caleb, Erika, Liam and Fiona.  He was known as Poppa or Pops and second father to many including Carla and Harold.  He was a special friend to Debbie Groves and others.  He will be dearly missed by numerous family members and friends including those from Kraft/General Foods, Cobourg Legion Branch 133, Camborne Church as well as friends and staff of Victoria Retirement Residence.  Verne will be remembered mostly for his extreme kindness, generosity, gentleness and his never ending care for people while always putting the needs of others before his.  Thank-you to Dr. Jayshree Amin for caring for Verne and special thanks to the staff of 2A and palliative advisors of Northumberland Hills Hospital for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Wednesday, January 27 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, January 28 from 10 – 11 a.m. with Funeral Service on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment Cobourg Union Cemetery.  Donations to the MS Society would be appreciated.  Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
