On Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the age of 68, John died peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home in Cobourg. He faced cancer the way he faced everything in life - with dignity, humour and grace, his beloved wife Esther (nee Peachey) at his side. John was a gentleman in every sense of the word. An accomplished horseman, he was also a passionate gardener and a lover of all living things, especially his horses and dogs. John pursued his love of horses, moving to the U.S. to train young equestrians, several of whom went on to become members of the U.S. Equestrian Team. After returning to Canada, John coached riders at several equestrian centers before realizing his dream of starting his own farm with Esther, where he successfully trained and bred horses for many years. His many creative talents and passion for architecture and design were fully displayed through the beautiful restoration of several country homes that he and Esther undertook. All his endeavours were marked by a keen attention to detail and dedication to perfection, but also reflected the essence of his kind and gentle soul. John was a loving and devoted father to Michael Robson (Karyn) and Jennifer Robson (Dr. Shannon Corbett). He was delighted with his young grandchildren Leo, John, and Liam, and they adored him in return. He was a dear brother to Nancy Hamm (Richard), and the late Donald Robson (Kathy); kind uncle to Geoffrey and Scott Robson, and Stephen, Peter, and Patrick Hamm; and brother-in-law to Peter, Joyce, and Richard Peachey. John will also be missed by the many people fortunate enough to have him as their friend. A private family graveside service was held at Cobourg Union Cemetery. A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, John's birthday, at 197 Alexandra Blvd., Toronto from 1-4 p.m. A special thank you to Dr. D. Moorsom and his palliative care team in Cobourg.
