BURN, Rev. Frederick James “Jim” – Sept. 14, 1931 – May 16, 2014 – Beloved husband of the late Jean (nee Smith). Loving father of Eleanor (Peter), Margaret (Gerry), Nancy (Paul) and Kevin (Janet). Cherished grandfather of Russell and Kirsten Landry; Tom and James LaRocque; Leo, Claire and Samuel Landry; and Jacob, Matthew and David Burn. Dear brother of John (Dorothy) and brother-in-law of Gloria and Judy. Also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends, especially by his dear friend Joy-Ann Moore. Jim was predeceased by his in-laws Charles, George and Anne, Betty and Lloyd, Mary and Harry, Carolyn, Joe and niece Alanna. Jim always had a strong faith. This led him to ministry in the United Church of Canada. After ordination in 1956, he had a fulfilling ministry, actively serving six congregations, then several others as an interim minister in his retirement. Jim enjoyed a variety of interests and pursuits, even when faced with daunting health challenges in his later years. He especially loved playing and watching sports, reading, theatre and concerts, camping, gardening and all card games, especially Bridge. In fact he taught Bridge everywhere he went to increase his opportunities to play. Jim was devoted to his family. His children and grandchildren were always aware of how fiercely proud he was of them. Jim had a quiet and unassuming presence, which was the public guise that didn’t always reveal the fact that he was a man of wisdom, thoughtfulness, care and compassion, assurance and determination, with generous doses of humour. He will be dearly missed.Visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, Division St & Chapel St, Cobourg on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Church of Canada Mission and Service Fund or Trinity United Church.
