It is with profound sadness that we report the unexpected death of Cath Oberholtzer at Sunnybrook Hospital August 18, 2012 at the age of 72. Cath was a warm-hearted and generous woman who loved and lived life to the full making time for all who needed her despite the long list of dreams she had set out for herself. At the age of 29 and with four children in tow, she began her university education and earned a BA and MA from Trent followed by a Doctorate of Anthropology in Native Studies from McMaster University. She then embarked on a forty year long career that specialized in Algonquian Art as expressed in their decorated clothing -– the only scholar in the world to do so. Also, in an untimely way, Cath's book entitled DREAM CATCHERS: LEGEND, LORE AND ARTIFACTS will be published on September 11 of this year. Cath will be sorely missed by the love of her life and husband of 54 years, Ron; her children Beth (Ray Fennelly), Todd, Candace, and David (Kathryn Larcher); the grandchildren that were the lights of her life, Jesse and Noah Church, Katie Johnson, Christopher Fawcett, and Maleah; many, many dear friends and numerous colleagues worldwide. There will be a reception in celebration of her life, on Friday, August 24, 2-4 p.m. at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E, Cobourg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cath's memory can be sent to the Northumberland Hills Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lymphoma Society of Ontario.
