Donald Joseph Ubell

VISIONARY   ADVOCATE   ENTREPRENEUR Donald Joseph Ubell died peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the age of 76.  Don is survived by his loving wife Loretta (nee Lauzon) of 55 years.  He will be deeply missed by his children:  Andrea, Bonita (Adrian Oosterman) & Carl and his cherished grandson Thomas Oosterman.  He is survived by his sister MaryLu Costyn (Ralph).  Don is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Emily Ubell and his “brother” Bruce Alton.  Don’s expansive network of family, friends, neighbours and colleagues will remember his warm smile, twinkling blue eyes, optimism, fantastic stories but mostly his big heart.  His life was an interesting journey that took him from being a graduate of Assumption College High School (Windsor), to Ford Trade School (St. Clair College, Windsor) as a tool and dye maker, to the Million Dollar Round Table (CLU) as an insurance salesman, to being a talented entrepreneur with many exciting adventures.  Don lived in Windsor, Toronto, Sarasota, Wooler and finally Cobourg.  Don was a life long active Liberal supporter working on many campaigns.  He was a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus for 55 years and an active member of St. Michael’s parish, especially the choir.  He considered his greatest achievements to be the advocate work he has completed in his beloved home of Cobourg (Past Chair of the Accessibility Committee and most recently as Chair of the Building Committee for the Cobourg Community Centre).  Don’s physical challenges may have increased over the past several years but his life was made easier by the support provided by the wonderful team of PSWs who worked with him.  A special thank you to Dr. Kirk Haunts and Dr. David Moorsom. His transition was more peaceful with the presence of Heather and his family is truly grateful.
