It is with heavy hearts the family of Henricus Isidorus Jansen “Henk” announce his passing on Sunday, May 15. 2022. Henk passed peacefully into the heavenly kingdom at the Ed’s House Northumberland Hills Hospice at the age of 79. We take comfort in knowing that he passed surrounded by his family in an abundance of love. He will be forever cherished by his wife Margaret Jansen (nee: Weinans) whom he was married to for 56 beautiful years. He is the adored father to Harry, Caroline (Ian), Marlene (Steve), and Michelle (Matt), proud grandfather of Felicia, Koby, Madeline, Jessica (Tyler), Travis (Aimee), Drew (Teesha), Adrien, Melinda, and Ben. Loved great-grandfather to Nolan, Cammie, Greer, Claire and Jericho. Henk will be deeply missed by his siblings Tiny, Rick, Jos and Agatha. Pre-deceased by his parents Henderikus and Maria Jansen as well as his siblings Theo, Ria and Marlene. Henk touched the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed by so many extended family and friends. Henk was born in Holland and lived there until the age of 23. He served in the Dutch army before moving to Canada in 1966 with his wife Margaret and son, Harry, hoping to fulfill his dream of owning his own farm. By 1979, with three more children, Henk and Margaret purchased and moved to their own farm on Shelter Valley Rd where they farmed and lived for 39 years. Henk spent most of his life outdoors even when he wasn't working. He loved winter sports such as skating, cross country skiing and tobogganing with his children and grandchildren. Henk enjoyed get togethers with family and friends too. Later in life he joined the Colborne Curling Club and the Hope Agricultural Heritage Club. Henk was diagnosed with Alzheimers in his early 70's. Throughout his later years Henk was surrounded by family and friends who cared greatly for him. Henk continued to spend time outside in nature almost every single day until and including the day he passed. The family thanks all of the support provided by PSW home support, the VON Day Program, Regency Manor Retirement Home, GABU, and Ed's House Northumberland Hospice. It was a long journey filled with caring people and special moments. A Catholic Mass will take place at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grafton Ontario on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM followed by a burial at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family will then be welcomed back to the St. Mary’s Catholic School gymnasium for food, beverage and a time of fellowship. Donations in Henk’s memory may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hills Hospice.

Deep condolences to the Jansen family. I grew up in the neighbourhood and was able to work Henk for several summers. Henk was a strict but extremely fair and caring employer. Of course hard to see at the time as a young teenager, but later in life the lessons on work and responsibility that Henk taught me carried on through all of my future studies and work. For that I thank Henk. He was an important influence I've always kept in mind throughout life's journey. Rest easy. Adam.
This was sad news indeed. My heart goes out to Margaret and all your family. I will never forget the kindness Henk showed my sons when they worked for him as well as always asking how they were as the years passed. It's with sincere, heartfelt memories of Henk that we send our condolences to all of the Jensan family. I didn't know Mr. Jansen very well. I only met him a few times. I did know his son very well and I've also been acquainted with the rest of the family. If there was nothing else, they alone monumentally attest to Mr. Jansen's contribution to this world and, at the end of his life, I expect he was very proud and of all of them and felt lucky to be their father and husband. 1979 was one of the best years of my life, Henk and Margaret bought the farm on the Shelter Valley Road, just down the road from my home; intern bringing into my life my best friend, Caroline and her brother, Harry and sisters Mars (Marlene) and Michelle. My second family, I spent more time in their home then I did my own which Henk and Margaret were great to point out. A few years later I brought Carl into the family and him and Henk became good friends. Carl spent a lot of time with Henk in helping on the farm on Turk Road. Henk didn't make a lot of money on rent from us but I think he rathered enjoyed having Carl work it off helping on this farm so Henk could do the farming on his own farm. We are forever greatful to have had the years on that farm starting our family their and having Henk and Margaret a big part of the journey with us. Henk's family has shown me how a real family should be, they are very close knit and they look out for one another, they supported Margaret through the last years helping with Henk as the illness took more and more away from him. This dedication to parents is outstanding and I can only hope that my children will stand beside me like this family did for their mom and dad. Henk was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and mostly to me and Carl a great friend. You will be greatly missed by us and we are thankful that you have found rest in Christ. Our prayers and thoughts are with my second family in this time of sadness. I love you all.
