Johannes (Jan) Wilhelmus van de Moosdyk

July 24, 1933 - May 3, 2022

Passed away peacefully at Hope Street Terrace on Tuesday May 3, 2022 in his 89th year with the love of his family. Jan was born on July 24, 1933 in Eindhoven, Holland. He immigrated to Toronto Canada in 1956. In 1961 he married Joan Louise (Henn) and soon afterwards started a family with son’s Jeff and Jody. Throughout his career he worked at Bata and Philips, in Holland. Then in Canada he worked at American Motors, Sears, Winchester and the Northumberland Newcastle Board of Education. He enjoyed gardening, making beer, collecting sports memorabilia and swimming. Jan enjoyed travel with his family to Florida, Holland and Europe. He loved entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed get togethers and family outings, especially when his grandchildren were involved. He was predeceased by his parents; Wilhelmus Jacobus van de Moosdijk and Geertruida Margaretha (Huigen), siblings Anna Johanna Greta and Lambertus (Bart) Kelch and Wilhelmus (Wim) and Geertruida (Truis) Wilhelmina Maria (Scheepers) van de Moosdijk. Jan is survived by Jeff, Robin, Anna van de Moosdyk and Tracey Thomas, Jody and Ian van de Moosdyk, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed. Thank you to Dr. Albert and the staff at Hope Street Terrace for their dedication and compassion. There will be a visitation held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Tuesday May 10 from 1 – 3 pm. A burial service will be held at Colborne East Cemetery on Wednesday May 11 at 1 pm. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so to the charity of their choice.
Pops
You held us in your arms when we were born and were so proud.
You tucked us into bed at night.
You read us bedtime stories.
You built tree forts with us.
You took us for toboggan rides down the big hill.
You taught us how to ride a bike.
You cleared the pond so the neighbourhood kids could play hockey.
You tied our skates at hockey and our teammates as well.
You taught us how to fish and hunt.
You liked all our friends and girlfriends.
You welcomed them into our home.
You helped with church.
Even getting my bride there on time.
You supported and backed us in all we did.
You gave yourself to your boys.
Then along came grandchildren and you showed,
all your love all over again, as only you could do.
You made Holidays, Birthdays and Christmas always so fun.
You were fun, caring and always so friendly.
You gave yourself to your family, and for this
I am so proud and honoured to call you my Pops.
I am going to miss you, Love Jeff
