It has been about 45 years since we first made connection with the Massey family & as I reflect back, I would say that more time was spent during those years with Lawrence & Joanne at the farm, at picnics, in Cobourg, Peterborough & other places. However, my greatest memory was 9/11 (2001), when Lawrence & I were chainsawing the huge Willow at the farm while things were taking place in New York city. Lawrence & Joanne were a fantastic couple & will be missed by all who knew them over the years. May your many past memories guide you through life as part of a highly respected family. Angie, Adam and your families. Condolences for the loss of your dad/grandfather. I have fond memories of time spent with my “Uncle Lawrence” over the years – be it at our family Christmas gatherings, picnics in Cobourg or otherwise; and I can’t recall him ever not being friendly, pleasant and easy to talk to. Genuine too, always asking questions about how things were going with me and others he was speaking with…and you knew he was truly interested in your response to those questions. He will be missed.

Met Lawrence in 1979 and found him to be a great person. I sold him crop insurance for his wheat crop. He eventually became an agent along with myself to look after all of Northumberland County. I think of him often and will keep so many fond memories close to my heart.

Angie, Adam and families- we were very lucky to have had good times with your Mom and Dad at the Warkworth hockey arena. Then as time went by and luck would have it, we ended up living beside each other in Cobourg. What great neighbours ! We miss them very much.

I was and still am a very close friend of Kathy. I was in grade five when I first met the Massey family. I had a huge crush on Lawrence and thought he was the was the perfect older brother, which of course he was. He was a lovely man and will leave a huge hole in the hearts of his family.

I knew Lawrence for only a few years, but understood immediately that he was a genuine compassionate man. I would tease him about his beloved Leafs and would simply grin from ear to ear. Angie and Adam and families - We were very sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. You’re obit said it all: he was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humour. I’m very glad we met him and your Mum and your branch of the Massey family when we did, in 1999 (??). I wish it could have been sooner. It was one of your Dad’s insurance customers, down near Trenton, that “introduced” us. When she discovered I was a Massey descendant, she asked if I knew Lawrence Massey. I told her no, but I had the blue Massey book with me and looked through it, and there your grandparents and your Dad and his siblings were. I told Helena that she could give my name and contact info to Lawrence if she wanted to. It was 4 or 5 months later that I received either a letter or an email from your Dad. Shortly after, Colin and I were invited up to the farm to meet the Masseys - your Mum and Dad, your grandparents Don and Velma, and Paul and Susan Van Blaricom. What a wonderful afternoon we had. And so it just grew from there. Of course, it wasn’t just the Massey kinship that fuelled our friendship. It was that common passion for history and genealogy. And now Colin and I are the only ones left. It was hard watching your Mum and Dad struggle as they did in the last years. I’m sure it must have been ten times harder for you. At least now you know that they’re at peace. And it’s a really difficult time to have a death in the family. I’m afraid we won’t be able to be there in person, but we would like to be a part of the gathering on Saturday in a virtual way. We’ll contact MacCoubrey’s about that. To the family- most of you know me; I brought my wife and kids up every summer for wheat harvest during the late 80's to mid 90's. Kathy I remember tending you when you got whacked with that wicked ground ball. The boys I remember as well, and Verlie, I think we only met once. Lawrence was the "big brother" I never had and he will be missed. Use your faith to help you get through this time; it will not fail you. We are are so very sorry to hear about the passing of Lawrence. He was very kind man and was a wonderful voice for the local Parkinson Community. He and the the entire Massey family have been dedicated participants to the local SuperWalk fundraising efforts, and it has been moving to see your involvement year after year. Angela, Adam & families I was so very sorry to hear of Lawrence's passing. He was a table mate with my husband for quite some time. I helped him and he always appreciated and said thank you. He was a kind soft spoken man always had a twinkle in his eyes and had a wonderful sence of humor. He was much loved he is now at peace and with your mom. Such a lovely loving couple. Lawrence was an incredibly nice guy, who always had time for a chat. He was a very good farmer with a scientific mind but held that special attribute of being humble. He was always cooperative and a great team player when in an organization. He was a valuable 4H leader many years ago. My condolences to his children and brothers and sisters.

Lawrence was my bus driver in elementary school (just a few years ago!). My Mom always said she would hear all the kids before she could see the bus. Riding the bus wasn't the same after he retired. My condolences to friends and family.

I met Lawrence just a few years before he was diagnosed with Parkinsons'. He and Joanne were such a good team and it is sad each has left us so soon. Lawrence was always respectful of others, looked for the good stuff and easy to talk with. His knowledge around just about anything was amazing. These past few years were not easy ones and we all hope for him to be now at peace. For family this is a time to remember the good times with Lawrence in order that the sadness and sense of loss is in second place.

I’m so sorry to hear about Lawrence. My best memory of him was at the end of one of the school years he gave me a massive bag of gummy bears. I used to put up all the windows on the bus for him when we were coming down Massey Lane to help and that was his way of saying thanks. The entire Puffer family sends their condolences.

Dear Angela, Adam and children. My husband Bill entered Streamway about ten days after your dad did. They both sat at the same table for their meals for fourteen months. I was saddened to learn of Lawrence's death. We had very much in common - one-room schools a few miles apart as were out father's farms on the Ninth concession of Cramahe. His father and my mother were first cousins on the McKague side. There was more - we both went to hgh school in Brighton and to OAC where we both majored in Soil Science. Whenever we got together, it was like an uninterrupted conversation in whch two people who did not see each other often still had the deep bonds of a shared past. My condolences to all the family.
